W czerwcu odbyła się już czwarta edycja Święta Ulicy Stalowej, tym razem pod hasłem „Praski, czyli jaki?”, które doskonale oddawało ideę wydarzenia – celebrację lokalnej tożsamości i niepowtarzalnego klimatu dzielnicy. Weekendowe zamknięcie ulicy dla ruchu, zmieniło ją w przestrzeń tętniącą życiem – od Czynszowej do Szwedzkiej ustawiono leżaki, scenę, namioty warsztatowe i stoiska. Ale najważniejsza była zawartość programu 🙂 wspólne śpiewanie, kilka parad sąsiedzkich i chyba najważniejszy punkt programu – warsztaty prowadzone przez mieszkańców w ramach minigrantów: graffiti, rękodzieło, tworzenie sąsiedzkiego zina, spacery historyczne oraz animacje dla różnych grup wiekowych. Na scenie wystąpili artyści związani z Warszawą i jej muzyczną tradycją – m.in. Warszawskie Combo Taneczne przywracające klimat ulicznych potańcówek, Fisz Emade Tworzywo ale też z mniej oczywistych pomysłów grupa kameralna NaDęte z Sinfonii Varsovii, prezentująca koncert „Blacha (i drzewo) na Stalowej.  Całość była jednak czymś więcej niż tylko festiwalem – wspólne, sąsiedzkie śniadanie w niedzielę, gdzie kilkudziesięciu mieszkańców ulicy przyszło z jedzeniem, żeby przy długim stole porozmawiać, a potem – po ostatnim koncercie skrzyknąć się jeszcze, żeby usiąść na afterku przy spontanicznie otwartej piekarni – pokazuje, że to wydarzenie stało się prawdziwym integratorem mieszkańców.

Title: Here We Know Each Other, Here We Act – How the Stalowa Street Festival Connects People, Places, and Ideas

In June, the fourth edition of the Stalowa Street Festival took place, this time under the slogan “Praga – but what kind?”, which perfectly captured the essence of the event – a celebration of local identity and the unique character of the district. Closing the street to traffic for the weekend transformed it into a vibrant public space – from Czynszowa to Szwedzka there were deckchairs, a stage, workshop tents, and stalls. But the real heart of the program lay elsewhere 🙂 – shared singing, several neighborhood parades, and perhaps the most important element: workshops run by residents themselves through mini-grants, including graffiti, handicrafts, creating a neighborhood zine, historical walks, and activities for different age groups.

On stage, artists connected to Warsaw and its musical traditions performed – among them Warszawskie Combo Taneczne, reviving the atmosphere of street dances, and Fisz Emade Tworzywo. There were also less obvious ideas, such as the chamber group NaDęte from Sinfonia Varsovia with their concert “Brass (and Wood) on Stalowa”.

But the event was much more than just a festival. A joint neighborhood breakfast on Sunday – when dozens of residents came with food to share at a long table – and, later, after the final concert, an impromptu gathering at a spontaneously opened bakery, show that the festival has become a true integrator of the local community.

A psychologist and graduate of the Interfaculty Individual Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Warsaw, he is the author of the blog Strefa Piesza (Pedestrian Zone) and a recognized expert on sustainable transport, public space, and pedestrian and cyclist safety. He has cooperated with the Supreme Audit Office, the Polish Parliament, and the Ministry of Development and Infrastructure. Since September 2015, he has
coordinated the Revitalisation Program of the City of Warsaw and teaches at the School of Ideas at SWPS University.
